David Martín de la Monja

Associate Faculty — Professional Master programmes

David Martín de la Monja is Chief Technology & Data Officer of PortAventura World, the largest theme-park and hospitality resort in southern Europe: three parks, ten hotels, retail, F&B and ticketing operations, with roughly five million visitors a year. He leads technology, data and AI across the resort.

He brings more than twenty years leading digital, cloud and AI deployments for consumer-facing brands with mass audiences. Previously he was CTO of AWWG (Pepe Jeans, Hackett, Faconnable), running cloud-native retail systems that handle millions of daily events across more than fifty countries, and held service-delivery leadership roles at Indra and T-Systems Iberia.

His teaching areas, drawn from work currently and recently held:

  • Applying AI and generative AI in real operations: guest-facing assistants, virtual queue management, demand forecasting, computer vision in parks.
  • Hospitality and leisure technology: ticketing and access control, property-management integration, mobile guest apps, ticketing fraud.
  • Cloud and data platforms at scale: AWS, event-driven architectures at millions of records per day, loyalty and CRM across retail and hospitality.
  • Cybersecurity and resilience in always-on consumer operations; ISO 27001 environments and post-incident transformation.
  • Building and retaining engineering teams outside capital-city markets.

At MIAAI he teaches the operations track and chairs part of the capstone review board during the Valletta residency.
